Some of My Favorite Recipes:

 

Baking Dough:  2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, water (mix dry ingredients first then add enough water to make a workable dough)  *You can bake the creations at 300 degrees for 1-1 ½ hours depending on the thickness of each item.  Finished products can be painted.

 

Milk Paint:  evaporated milk + food coloring (divide milk into containers and add different colors to each)

 

Magic Crystals:  2 cups water, 2 cups Epsom salts, food coloring (in saucepan, combine the water and salts, bring to a boil.  Stir and allow to cool.  Add color.  Paint with the mixture on paper.  It will dry to create clear, colored crystals.

 

Decorative Dye:  1 Tablespoon rubbing alcohol, food coloring, rice or pasta (in small Tupperware, put one tablespoon of rubbing alcohol and a few drops of food coloring.  Place the rice or pasta in the mixture and seal the lid.  Shake gently for one minute.  Spread the dyed objects on paper towels or newspaper to dry) 

 

Play Dough:  1 cup flour, ½ cup salt, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, 1 cup water, 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, food coloring (cook mixture for 2 minutes then knead dough on floured surface)

 

Colored Glue:  Add food coloring to glue

 

Extra Bright Tempera Paint:  2 cups tempera paint, 1 cup liquid soap (clear or white), 1 cup liquid starch

 

Bubbles:  ¼ cup dishwashing liquid, ½ cup water, 1 teaspoon sugar, food coloring

 

Corn Syrup Paint:  corn syrup + food coloring (a few days drying time)

 

Paper Mache:  liquid starch, cold water, newspaper torn into strips (dip strips in mixture and apply to a formed chicken wire or rolled newspaper shape)

 

Salt Paint:  2 teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon liquid starch, a few drops of tempera paint (when dry, looks frosty)

 

Shiny Paint:  1 part liquid glue, 1 part tempera paint

 

Oobleck:  1 ½ cups cornstarch, 1 cup water, food coloring
